Are you against getting an epidural?

Why are people against them...other than if you move while they inject the epidural, it can cause paralysis.

I think it fucked up my back. When I got home from the hospital I couldn’t even bend over or walk bc my back hurt so bad. My doctor said it wasn’t due to the epidural and that it was bc I just gave birth and it’ll stop... 5 years later and my lower back still hurts where they put the needle in. I think it messed up my back so I’m just choosing not to get it again.

I am not against it for anyone but myself. Epidurals just aren’t for me. It’s my understanding that you can’t walk around after having one and that’s a huge thing for me. I like being able to walk. I don’t care if other people get them or not. I don’t think those people are weak or anything. We just have different preferences.

My plan is to see how I feel when I’m in labor, but I’m not ruling anything out or deciding I absolutely I want it until I’m there.

Had one with both of my labors and don’t regret it at all. Helped relax me so I could actually stay calm and somewhat enjoy the whole experience. Didn’t really experience any side effects from it. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.

I'm against the epidural for myself but in my last delivery I was told I could have an epidural or a c-section. 
I had increased pain from swollen kidneys and it was causing me physical  stress.
So I did it and I got to give birth vaginally so I'm so very happy with the outcome.

It’s personal preference for me. I don’t want an epidural. I am weird about my spine.

I can stand getting blood draws let alone a needle inserted into my spine. Plus I know my pain tolerance and wanted to try without because it can sometimes stall labor and recovery is often faster without. I did a natural delivery without epidural and I plan to do it again for any and all future babies

I didn’t have one with my daughter and don’t plan on it with this baby either because hospital interventions tend to be a slippery slope leading to a higher rate of c-sections in the US than any other developed country. Read Ina May Gaskin’s Guide to Childbirth if you are interested in doing it naturally. If you aren’t, no biggie, it’s totally your choice. I have had several friends with complications from the epidural, some scarier than others. I would love to have my baby at a birthing center, but I had hemorrhaging after birth (I retained placenta), so doing it at the hospital is the compromise I made with my husband for him to agree to let me have another baby.
