On October 11th 2018 at 11:53am Avery Rose Eastman made her grand entrance weighing 8lbs 2 ounces.

It was a very difficult labour and it did not go as planned. I laboured at home for three hours and once dilated to a six we went to the birth Center. The contractions became incredibly painful and I laboured for seven more hours only progressing to an eight. The pain became too much and was causing me to vomit and it was believed baby was stuck. So I decided I needed an epidural and we went to the hospital. Once there I laboured for almost another hour before anesthesia got there, the epidural worked great and when they checked me I was at ten cm but couldn’t push because baby was stuck transverse. I laid on my side for an hour and she ended up in the proper position. Unfortunately my contractions had really spread out so they had to put my on oxytocin. Two hours after starting oxytocin they allowed me to start pushing. I ended up pushing for four hours and finally she was born! I got to pull her to my chest and meet my little rainbow. My husband cut the cord after the delayed cord clamping. When it was time to deliver the placenta things took a terrible turn. The cord snapped and they had to retrieve my retainer placenta. It was quite stuck to my uterus. Then the bleeding started (the Ob described it as it came out like a garden hose). I didn’t realize how bad the situation was until I started feeling lightheaded. I asked if I was feeling lightheaded because of the medication they were giving me to stop the bleeding but I was told it was because of the blood loss. When I had to give up my baby girl to my husband was when the fear set in. I started really feeling out of it and I kept telling myself you can’t die you’ve waited so long to meet this baby. Tons of people were in my room, I could hear the doctor asking to have an operating room made available. She was talking to my husband about a d&c and if they couldn’t stop the bleeding they would have to remove my uterus. Luckily they were able to get the bleeding to stop. I ended up losing 3 litres of blood and received two blood transfusions because my hemoglobin level was very low. I spent three days in hospital and was super happy to go home. Recovery has been slow but I am so blessed to be alive and be a mommy to my little Avery.
