Struggle to breastfeed?

Question

Did anyone else struggle to breast feed in a previous pregnancy? I had to use a nipple shield last time and just couldn’t take it anymore after 2 months.  I feel like I had the worst breast pump through my insurance too.  I’m praying it is easier this time.

Yes! I used the nipple shields in the beginning too. My son had a tongue tie and once we got it clipped, it was better. Lots of clogged ducts and strong let downs. We ended up going almost 2 years but it was rough in the beginning! Hoping it’s easier this time around!

Me! I only lasted a few weeks with my daughter and that was mainly pumping because she never wanted to latch, was always starving and screaming, i had really bad cracking/bleeding, went to a specialist, used a nipple shield etc and still it never worked out for us. By 2 months my daughter was fully on formula and turned out perfectly fine, in my opinion, fed is best, doesn’t matter how. 
I’m going to try again with this baby but by beating myself up or torturing myself if it doesn’t work out.

With my first they used a vaginal vacuum and he had head pain. He had a hard time latching and one nurse came in and literally squeezed his head and forced him on. After that all these people came in and examined my boobs, gave me a nipple shield etc. I ended up pumping colostrum and feeding it to him. The one night they took him for a wellness check and he didn’t come back. So when I inquired a nurse started screaming at me that he was in the nursery having a bottle because I REFUSED to feed him. That he was jaundiced and it was all my fault and that I could see him again when he recovered. I just started crying because I was pumping and squirting it in his mouth every 3 hours. I would have gladly given him a bottle but they told me I was EBF and it would ruin the process. After that I pumped exclusively, I got him to latch once but the pump made my flow too strong. We kept it up until about 6 weeks. Because the pediatrician asked me if I was pumping and waiting to feed it to him why I didn’t just use formula and make my life easier. Over all it was a terrible experience and I’m hoping this time is MUCH better.

My son was a preemie he got used to a bottle. I pumped they let me use a hospital grade pump for 3 months then my insurance sent me a pump I used that till he was 11 months. I make a lot of milk so I could freeze and also give him the fresh I would pump. Not what I wanted to do but he got breast milk for 11 months. I don’t want to do that again so hoping for a full term baby that will nurse, I’m sure it will be harder to pump 24/7 with a newborn and a toddler who loves his momma.

It’s not for everyone and I get really sad when I see moms getting mad because their bodies won’t work with them😭 did you try a breast feeding class last time. For some reason my son popped out and it literally clicked for us, just worked I’m not sure why. But with my second I’m hoping I will produce and I can breastfeed again, but I’m realizing it’s not easy and second baby might not click and if it doesn’t at least I can say I tried🤷🏽‍♀️

I also had to use a nipple shield with my first. It was a struggle and the lactation consultant was terrible. Telling me if I couldn’t get baby off the nipple shield in 48 hrs I could kiss breastfeeding goodbye. We persevered, after 9 weeks of using it, one day my daughter was over it and latched just fine. I was able to nurse her 13 months before she self weaned. I’m having twins this time around and plan on breastfeeding again (even with all the ridiculously negative comments I’ve been receiving about it). I struggled with pumping for my daughter. I had a nice Medela pump... it just doesn’t work for some people. Tried all the things, watching videos of my daughter while pumping, pumping while nursing, etc. just never worked well for me. I’m looking into encapsulating my placentas this time around. Besides the benefits for faster healing and mood, I’ve read wonderful things about what it does for ones milk supply.

breastfeeding alone from the start has always worked for me, very pain at first for each and we did have a diet/milk drop event but we have made it through. its BF while pregnant that has killed me. 19wk had to stop completely. week ago to my 20month old because I just couldn't take the pain anymore with just one feeding g a day. good luck.

I sure did. My daughter was born with Laryngomalacia, an airway defect that can cause feeding issues, but we weren't diagnosed till she was 2 months old. In the hospital following her birth, I told everyone she wasn't eating, but nobody would listen. We were discharged barely 24 hours after birth because they needed our room and she continued to grow weaker and weaker until she was unable to wake up to even attempt to eat (this was with lactation consultants coming to my house and trying to help her eat and everything, she just kept getting weaker). Her jaundice was so bad that her docter said she had hours to a day left before she starved to death. We began supplementing formula, which helped, but my supply never was enough and we ended up moving to strictly formula at 1 month (again, before diagnosis). I have such bad PTSD from this that I don't even want to breastfeed this time around. I want to for colostrum and then go to formula. I can't even think about breastfeeding without having panic attacks. I feel like my boobs are different this time around, so I'm wondering if that means I'll actually produce enough this time (my low supply was also a legit thing, we couldn't catch a break), so I'm not counting it out just yet, but I really don't want to breastfeed after my experience.

Couldn't with my first (made it a week) and made it 8 months with my second with no issues. Though my milk dried up over night after 8 months with my second. My hope is my body can do its job until 1 year with this baby #3
