Was it really an abortion?

So a little over a year ago I was diagnosed with an ectopic pregnancy (implanted in the tube) and was told to abort because if the baby continued to grow it would burst my tube and I could die from internal bleeding. I was also told there was no way a tubal pregnancy could survive due to the fact that the placenta could not survive in the tube. I ended up losing the baby due to the tube bursting (they had to remove the tube as well in emergency surgery) and they labelled it as an abortion. I don't feel it was because it was not my choice to terminate but I still feel guilty. What are your thoughts?

You should not feel guilty about that. You had no control over the fact that implantation occurred in your tube, which makes a pregnancy impossible to survive. Did you know that the medical term for a miscarriage is "spontaneous abortion?" That word can sting when the pregnancy wasn't ended intentionally, but it's just medical terminology. I really have that the Doctors use the abortion term when really it's a miscarriage. It wasn't a choice of losing the baby.

I see an abortion, as a woman willing making the choice to end a child's life, if you had a tubal pregnancy neither you nor the baby would've survived, they call that an abortion but its not the same in my mind. They sometimes call miscarriages spontaneous abortions which isn't the same either.

Yeah I notice the term abortion is used for those situations sometimes but I wouldn't use the word abortion for that. Don't beat yourself up over this. There was no way that the baby was going to live or even develop or grow properly and your own life was in a real physical danger. Maybe don't use the word abortion in relation to this if the word is affecting you negatively. I wish you the best and hope you recover well xx

If you want to go by the Catholic Churches definition: if a tube is removed from ectopic pregnancy, losing the baby would be a secondary loss. Losing the tube causes the loss of the child. Same thing if you need a hysterectomy and are pregnant. And Catholics are known for their strict ideas about abortion.

You said you lost the baby when the tube ruptured. It wasn't your choice, there wasn't a surgery to remove the baby, it happened on it's own. That's a miscarriage girl, don't feel guilty. I'm so sorry you went through that and that the doctors labeled it as an abortion because it most certainly wasn't.
