Sister carrying my child?

My sister who is 18 and I were talking the other day. We believe I am unable to have children. Her and I were just talking about my infertility and she started telling me how she has considered being a surrogate for my husband and I. She said it would be weird, but at least her sister would have a child. This really touched my heart, and my husband and I have actually thought about asking her to do it for us. We would wait till she is a little older because she is still really young. Do you think this is too much to ask of her? She is in college right now and I don’t want to interfere with her life too much, but we do desperately want a child. Any advice or thoughts are appreciated.

Unless she’s carried a child full term and has a healthy labor and pregnancy she won’t be able to be a surrogate. It is a beautiful thought though.

It’s not too much to ask. You two are obviously close and she brought it up first so it’s clear she wouldn’t mind and would probably be happy she helped. But I agree that you should wait until she’s a little older. Doctor appointments and pregnancy symptoms could interfere with college work and honestly just being pregnant might interfere with social opportunities.

I offered to do this for my brother and his wife. They’re 8 and 10 years older than me, respectively, and have been trying for over 13 years. We couldn’t find anyone who would approve me as a surrogate until I carried a child to term though.

I think 18 is a little young and considering she hasn’t carried a child full term, nor does she have a child herself I would be careful... she doesn’t know the feeling of having a baby... and then to have to give it away? She may think she can handle it and turn around and be attached to the baby.
