How long should I wait to use ovulation testing kits after stopping birth control?

I'm trying to figure out when I ovulate. I stopped BC 6 weeks ago. No period and not pregnant. When can I start trying to figure out when I'm ovulating? I was told I can still ovulate without a period after coming off the pill. Based on CM I believe I ovulated 2 weeks after I finished out my pill pack and we decided to TTC week 3 after my period so if I did ovulate I missed it last month.
