Low sperm and iui?

Hi ladies,

We've been referred to a fertility clinic bc my husband has low sperm.  His urologist is suggesting IVF, I'm not against that we will do what we need to but has anyone had this and had a successful iui?  I know they prefer higher sperm for an iui.  Any advice would be great, we have our first appt on Friday.

Have you had him take any vitamins/supplements? My hubby has low motility and morphology, and I put him on a cocktail of vitamins about three months ago. I also started clomid and did a trigger shot to strengthen and help pinpoint ovulation, and I got my BFP this morning. I was certain that IUI or IVF would be the only way, but it happened without. I think the supplements really helped his swimmers because the numbers were not great three months ago (I really want him to get another SA to see if they really improved drastically or not)  Good luck! Remember, it only takes one!

Does he have a low count or low motility or both?

Really depends on the count and how well they move. IUI is where they take his sperm and clean it of extra fluid and spin it so that the best sperm are separated out, so it's like a "concentrated shot", and then they inseminate you at an ideal time. However, if his count is too low, or they're not good swimmers, then IUI will unlikely be a good option because they still have to do the work.

My dr said sperm count regenerates every 60 days. Hubby's count was 16mill when we tested then 60mill on IUI day and now I'm pregnant wth twins! So I'd try the more conservative (and cheaper!) approach with IUI first for sure! And have hubby go at least 3-4 days of abstinence before to get a higher count

My husband has low sperm count and morphology but my RE wanted us to try IUI first a couple times. We've had one unsuccessful IUI, but I started AF today so we will try another attempt  this month.  We think $500 compared to $10,000 is worth it, at least a couple of times.

Male factor only here. 3 failed iui's. It can work, just not for us. We moved on to ivf. I wish we would have done it sooner!

My hubby has low count, not great morphology and not great motility. Our doctor has suggested we try one or two rounds of Iui since it's not unheard of for low count/quality to be successful and its waaaaaay cheaper than IVf. We are in our first IUi cycle now. Depending on his counts in 2 weeks, if this Iui doesn't work, we will make the decision on the second round of Iui or make the jump to iVF. Positive thoughts for you!!!
