Catheter?!

When you get an epidural are you required to have a catheter?! I've never heard of this until recently. Sounds uncomfortable so I'm hoping that's not the case! Lol

Yeah you cant feel when you need to go to the bathroom otherwise.

Yes they place it after you are numb from the epidural so you don’t feel it. As soon as you deliver it’s removed and you can get up and use the bathroom. At least this is what I did.

You can’t move your legs to walk after you get an epidural so you’ll be stuck in bed. That’s the reason you need a catheter.

Yes but once you deliver, they will remove it and make you go to the bathroom. They always made sure that afterwards, I was able to pee on my own. What's awkward though is they look at your pee for any blood clots 😂

I’m sure it’s just to make sure you’re not constantly peeing on yourself or the doctor while trying to push the baby out. I had one didn’t bother me that much. I actually had to have it in until the next day because I was soo swollen I couldn’t pee by myself. (My nurse rub me way too much and made it supper swollen)

It’s protocol to do it with an epidural because you cannot feel when you need to pee. They wait till your numb to put it in and you don’t feel anything. In fact, you can’t even tell it’s there if you’re not thinking about it. It’s completely painless and honestly, I didn’t mind it because I didn’t have to get up every hour to go pee for once because I could never tell when my bladder was full. Lol.
