How to get bf to value you more

I’ve been with my bf for 3.5 years. We don’t live together. We both go to uni. But ever since we started dating, I have always paid for most things and I have always planned most date ideas. He hasn’t had a job yet so I understand his situation. But it would be nice to occasionally get an appreciation of some kind from him. How could I get him to appreciate/value me more?
