Did any of you ladies get spotting around the time of period?

I recently found out I am 4-5 weeks pregnant. 2 days before my period was about to start (or should have started!), I had spotting. it wasn't coming out on my underwear or when I wiped, but instead I didn't think I was pregnant and felt my cervix and I saw a tiny bit of brown blood that was mixed in with my cm. Period still didn't come, so I finally ended up taking a test and SURPRISE I am expecting! Is this pretty common or should I be concerned? I have my first Dr. appt on the 27th so I'll definitely bring that up and I have sore breasts, nausea, and the typical cramping that alternates sides. I don't feel that I miscarried because it wasn't clots or anything that freaked me out, but I just want to ease my mind before my appt. is this ok or do I need to make a trip to the ER?
