Not with the father of the baby, thinking of giving the baby my last name, has anyone else done this?

Baby would get my last name if I wasn’t with the father regardless of the fathers role in baby’s life.

My mom gave me her last name. Growing up and realizing I could’ve had my dads last name is kind of overwhelming. MY mom raised me. MY mom gave birth to me. Yes, he was in my life but I didn’t live with him, I just visited. He didn’t drive me to school every single morning. He didn’t have to stay up with me every time I got sick or take me to the doctor. He didn’t have to cook dinner for me every night or work 2 jobs to take care of me. She did. I couldn’t imagine having his last name and I’m so glad I don’t. She was a strong single mother and I’m proud to carry her last name. 😊

Personally, I think it depends if the baby’s father is in an active role in the baby’s life or not. If he’s a deadbeat then yeah I’d give the baby your last name.

I was a complete MORON and didn’t do this bc although we were not together I believed we would stay close. (I was with him for over 10 years).  Terrible idea. I now have sole custody and my husband cant adopt my son bc my ex will not sign off on it. And I now have to spend thousands proving he is unfit so that I can get his parental rights taken away......give the baby your last night. It’s a nightmare if things go wrong.

I think it would depend on the relationship i had with the father after we broke up if it was bad id give the baby my last name but if it ended peacefully and you still could tolerate each other id give the baby the dads last name

I was the oldest of 4 and I was the only one with my dads last name I hated it. My dad ended up being pretty absent from my life as with my siblings fathers. I think if your not married baby should have moms name
