Ooh. That’s a hard one. I had a crush on a really sweet guy. Since I didn’t have the nerve to tell him, I dropped little hints. He missed all of the hints. The crush ended up dying after that (the crush I had on him—he didn’t die). 
It’s really up to you. You can tell him and potentially kill the friendship or not tell him and miss out on someone special.

You have to decide what you want the most. Telling can ruin the friendship, but if you're ready to let that go, then go for it.
I had the same dilemma once. I reached a point where I needed to ell him, knowing there wasn't ever any going back. Luckily he felt the same and we're together 9 years later. But I know people who told their friend and their friend didn't feel the same. So the friendship just kinda died.
