Our, not what we planned for, labor & delivery

Jessica

Our sweet Oona Lily was born on her due date, November 18th! We’re apart of the 5%!

What a labor we had too... I planned on a natural water birth at my hospital, took a hypnobirthing class, was trying to be as prepared as possible....baby was like nahhh let’s try something else!

So I started going into active labor, was 7cm, got in the tub and was workin with the contractions. It was actually hard for me to labor in the tub. I ended up getting out quite a bit to walk and squat to keep the contractions coming. After what seemed like forever, my midwife checked to see if i had dilated anymore. Nope! After hours I was still a 7. She thought it would be best to break my waters and get things moving along. I went from a 7 to a 9 fairly quickly but never got back in the tub.

I ended up being stretched to a 10 because I just wasn’t progressing with each contraction like I should have. So I ended up pushing for three hours. Three. Hours. I tried every position too. On my back with legs up (the worst), on all fours, on my side, squating and standing up. Baby was NOT moving down and I was getting even more exhausted than I already was.

My midwife was getting worried that her heart rate was getting too high and that my contractions just weren’t strong enough to push her out. She could tell her head was turned at a bad angle too and that was causing issues as well. So we scheduled a c section... I wasn’t even upset about it. I had big plans to do natural but I knew she needed to come out asap and she was most important. I do believe this is where the hypnobirthing really did help. I was calm and let the doctors do what they do best. I practice my breathing techniques through it all and that really made me stay more relaxed and at ease.

So all in all, I ended up hard laboring for 2 days, pushing for 3 hours and then finally having a cesarian. I can’t complain though, she’s absolutely perfect and we’re so in love. I would do it all again.
