Pump volume removed or length of pumping session?

Question

pumping question: If you pump the quantity you want/need for a bottle in 5min rather than 10-15min will it negatively affect your supply to not pump longer? Will your body replace the milk pumped or does it more respond to the pumping action rather than volume removed?

I think it just produces less, but in the long run, not immediately. But I would advise against not pumping until you're empty, only because I did that when I was trying to wean off the pump, and I had a horrible experience of clogged milk ducts and my breasts were so engorged and painful. And that was after a day of pumping when I went down from 25 to 20 minutes! It also depends on how far along you are pumping. I was getting 40 oz a day (like 4 months postpartum) when I cut back on time I was pumping. So if you want to do that, be careful. I would at least pump until you feel mostly empty. Listen to your body though. Everyone's body is different.
