birth control pill and withdrawal

I've been on the pill for a little over a week and take it at the same time everyday. the pamphlet said I don't have to use back up contraception if I take it the first day of my period which I did. my boyfriend and I don't want to use a condom (mainly because they hurt me). is the withdrawal method with birth control taking the pill safe to do at this point? or should I keep taking my birth control and use a condom for a while until it kicks in more? thank you in advance.
