The trouble in America's Idols

I feel that there is a huge shift in values in our country. Unfortunately our children grow up worshipping wealth and beauty over knowledge and wisdom. American teens can name all of the surgically enhanced Kardashians but have no clue who is making advances in Cancer research or who has most recently received a Nobel prize. Is America becoming overwhelmingly Narcissistic? Are people in other countries noticing this trend as well?
