What are the differences?

Can anyone tell me the differences between a regular sore throat and strep or a bacterial infection? I was just at the doctors and don't feel like going back. My throat really hurts, i has little red dots on it and on the sides surrounding it. Im pretty sure its just a regular sore throat but just wanna make sure (:

Take it from someone who's had strep throat twice, where one of those was with a cold during finals week in college--it's very painful. It'll be excruciating to swallow or use your throat at all. Try taking cold medicine, if in a few hours you notice the soreness doesn't dissipate or gets worse, it could be strep. Also, you'll have white puss on your tonsils, and you may experience some heinous halitosis.
