10 weeks old, nursing strike 10+ days
Tips for surviving a nursing strike?
My little guy decided, at 10 weeks, that he didn’t want to nurse. He would scream bloody murder when I tried to get him to latch. I would only push him so far before I give in and gave him a bottle (we supplement 50/50 with nursing and formula) because I don’t want him to associate the breast with anything bad. When I can get him to latch on, he feeds fine and has a good suck. I went from nursing for 6-8 hours a day, and giving him 12oz of formula, to nursing for less than an hour and giving him around 30oz (formula and breastmilk that I’ve pumped). Anytime he has a bottle, I pump.
I’m unsure what’s causing this strike - he doesn’t have a fever, no ear infection, no change in my diet/food consumption. I called the pediatrician and she basically told me that he was frustrated that I wasn’t producing enough and that I should just started to wean him 😭 I was hoping to nursing for at least six months, but would love to make it a year.
It’s making me SO upset and emotional - I spend most of my days crying on the couch.
I don’t really know specially what I’m looking for here - advice, suggestions, solidarity?
Tell me there’s hope and we’ll get through it 😓 it’s been 13 days so far
