Scary start to the day!
My sweet 15 month old boy took a big fall yesterday while playing. This is totally normal for toddlers, but he smacked his head right on the tile. So I monitored him, iced the growing knot on his head as much as he’d let me, fed him dinner (he had his usual appetite) and put him down about an hr past his bed time just to be sure he wasn’t showing concussion symptoms.
Well, this morning I go to get him from his crib and there is vomit, EVERYWHERE. I mean so much like, idk where it even came from. Immediately I’m rushing into the shower knowing we’re bound for the children’s hospital when he’s cleaned up. I was sure he had a concussion, but hopeful it was a coincidence and maybe he’d contracted the stomach bug going around here.
I get us both dressed and head out the door, texting my husband who’s our deer hunting to let him know we’re headed to the ER.
We arrived around 9:10 this morning and we were promptly triaged and put in a room. The nurses brought us some toys to play with while we waited to see a doctor, who ordered a head CT. By 10 am we were taken to CT and they wrapped him in warm blankets and gave me an iPad to hold in attempt to avoid sedation in keeping him still. He did so good! By 10:30 am the results of a NORMAL CT showing no brain injury were back! 🙌🏻🙌🏻 Praise Him! The doctor had me nurse my son and brought him some crackers and by 10:50 we were discharged to head home with a prescription for Zofran for nausea.
I’m still freaking out over the idea of him having choked on the vomit in his sleep instead or of a serious brain injury, but I’m so thankful it was neither.
