Too fat to get pregnant ?

I visited my lady dr for my yearly and a pap and was telling her we have been trying for three months now and she told me it’s going to be hard because I am 50 lbs over weight. I am 6 feet and weigh 230lbs. I recently gained weight (I was  confortable at 195)  at since getting married and switching from overnights to on shift. I am working on loosing weight and eating right but I am really bummed by what my doctor had to say. Anyone else have the doctor tell them this ?

It can cause issues, but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible to get pregnant and have a healthy pregnancy when you’re overweight. But, it is a fact that being overweight can make things harder and in some cases more risky. Your doctor has to tell you these things so that you’re aware- it’s just part of her job. 
If you’re working on getting healthier then just keep doing that! It takes a year and sometimes longer for the ideally healthy couple to conceive so after 3 months you’re not behind at all! It took me about 3 years to conceive a child that I didn’t miscarry and I was perfectly healthy and shouldn’t have had issues (nor did my husband). A friend of mine who was overweight at the time conceived after a month of trying. So while statistically being overweight can make it harder to conceive, it doesn’t always work out that way. So keep your chin up! It’ll happen.

My co workers sister is VERY overweight and she's on baby number 5 🤷🏼‍♀️ I know plenty of people who are overweight and have multiple kids. Everyone's different though.

My best friend is significantly over weight (well over 50lbs) and she got pregnant her second month trying. She’s currently 22 weeks with a healthy baby. Everyone’s different. Good luck!!

I am average weight and it still took me 11 months to get pregnant... my friend is pretty over weight and got pregnant “by accident” twice... just keep trying!

I have a friend who had 2 healthy kids without even trying while she weighed over 400 lbs at the time. Thats just one example of many. Losing weight probably will help health-wise but being overweight doesnt mean you wont get pregnant.

Being overweight doesn’t mean you can’t get pregnant. But, ideally, you should get to a healthy weight before getting pregnant - for you and baby.
