Baby #2 on the way...When to move #1 to a toddler bed?!

Baby #1 will be 21 months old when baby #2 is born. Really not trying to buy another crib if possible. Should i get a toddler bed, put the double size mattress on the floor or double size mattress on the frame with bed rails! Thanks in advance!

Take baby #1 to a store with kid bed displays and see how they react.

Our will be exactly two years apart, both March babies. We moved the crib to the new room and got our daughter a twin bed. Didn't want to buy a toddler bed then in a year buy a regular bed. We jumped right to a twin bed that she will use for years and years to come.

Could you keep the baby with you in a bassinet for a few months until the older one is 2? Then you can put the older one in the toddler need with rails.

We are getting our son a full size mattress for Christmas. He will be 26 months when we move him to the bed. He will be 28 months when his brother gets here.  I want him to make the break of thinking its his crib so his brother can use it. My son loves bed time so we can't wait to see him love his new bed as much as a crib.

We transitioned to a toddler bed at around 2. He’s still in his crib but no longer has the front rail so he is at ease to get up when he wants. With that said, we’ve always had a solid bedtime routine since he was just a few months old so once he is put into bed he doesn’t get out of bed till daylight.

My oldest went into a toddler bed at 2/3 (we used to put her in our bed to sleep a lot so that was a struggle) and in a twin bed at 3/4. She now since a little over 4 has been sleeping in her bed. She’s now 5
My middle has been sleeping in a toddler bed since 2. And at 3 in a twin. (Had no problems with her since I learned the first time not to let her sleep with us) she’s now 4.
My youngest has been sleeping in a toddler bed since she was 1 and this Thursday we’re gonna put her in her first twin bed. She will be 2 on Dec 30th. She has been the EASIEST when it comes to sleeping 
I’ve learned with these kids to start early. I waited with my oldest and it led to A LONG, A STRESSFUL SLEEP TRAINING PROCESS. Paci’s we took away at a year, bottles away at 6 months (then to a sippy) started potty training at 13 months. It’s just easier, but then again it depends on the child.
Get them hyped up about it. Take them to look at “Big kid” beds, buy them new sheets in their favorite character, get the bed in their favorite color. Talk about it to them so they understand that they are going to sleep in a new bed, GET a rail for the bed (I personally didn’t, i put the toddler mattress on the floor next to it in case) make it a whole thing for them and they will see the joy in it and the importance. Kids like new and exciting things 😂 it would be easier to get it done before the next baby comes so you can reuse crib ect. Just remember it takes Time and patience. Also, remember to take it easy while your pregnant because you might be over it quickly (At lease I was but I pulled through) 😂
