Breastfeed or Formula?

I was planning to exclusively breastfeed. Then my friend with a 6 month old said its terrible and he wakes up 5 or more times a night to eat STILL. I don't think I can handle that. I wont be a good mom or wife with that little sleep for 6+ months. What are you planning to do?

I breastfed during the day and supplemented with formula and pumped at night.

I formula fed at 6 months and my son woke up several times a night. It doesn't matter if it's breastmilk or not. 
That is when it was time to start sleep training.

Formula feeding also doesn’t guarantee baby will sleep through the night nor inhibit baby from waking up 5 times a night. Bottom line, you’ll miss out on sleep but if you’re already assuming you’ll be no good on less than 6 hours of sleep a night, you have your work cut out for you momma. My first son wouldn’t latch without a shield and I switched him to formula at 4 months and he was still a night owl. My second son I exclusively fed him only breast milk (both via breast and bottle), he never once had a drop of formula & nursed until 19 months old! 😊 I also pumped full time to ensure he had enough breast milk (about 30oz for one day!) while he was at daycare when I went back to work at 6 weeks. Was it easy? Helllllll no. But it was 100% worth it and I’d do it again in a heartbeat.
Bottom line, you have to make sacrifices... just weigh which ones are worth it 🤷🏻‍♀️

5 times a night is likely due to wanting comfort or startling themselves awake.

I breastfeed and give formula and pump & co sleep 😃and I get at least 8 hours of sleep each night because he will just wake up and I’ll give him the boob then I fall back asleep 😅😅 
During the day if we are out and about I bring a bottle of formula. 
At home and at night I breastfeed 
You can do both !

Breastfeeding is like every 3 hours.
Formula is every 4-5 hours. 
5 plus times a night for feeds - I would be concerned they aren’t getting enough during the feeding. 
It’s up to you, however I wouldn’t let a friend influence your decision.

If your having doubts don’t be afraid to use formula.  I BF for 4 weeks then dried up out of the blue.  Started formula and baby did great

Everyone’s experience is different. Don’t let one friend’s experience scare you away from what could be a really good decision for your baby. I know it can be very difficult to breastfeed, but I have also seen people be very successful and glad they did it.

With my first I was all about that breastfeeding life. My little one wasn’t gaining weight and found out I wasn’t producing enough... I legit did everything imaginable to make it work. I saw a lactation consultant a couple times a week, I rented a hospital grade pump and power pumped daily... I pumped like it was going out of style. I make lactation cookies and drank the teas, I literally gave it 100% but had to supplement at 3 months due to baby not gaining weight. Come to find out, I had hypothyroidism and that’s why I couldn’t produce milk. Fed is best and whatever works for you and you family is what’s best for baby.

You can breastfeed and pump so your hubby can feed the baby overnight. That's what I did with my son. Some babies can develop nipple confusion but my son didn't.  It just depends on how you feel about using bottles.
