Should I ask my mom to get on birth control

So I’m 16 and I want to get on birth control because I just think it would be a good idea. The only thing is that my mom would think the only reason I wanted to get on birth control is to have sex with the guy I’m talking to. I also don’t plan on having sex for a while because I just don’t want to right now.

Could I get some advice on how to ask her about it.
