Is it really colic?

Is it really colic or acid reflux, everyone says something different, no baby should have to cry in pain like that for hours during the day and night. Why arent people talking about this more? Why isnt there a warning that this can or may happen to your new born. It can last 3 months? It can last up to a year some say? Why isnt there an actually diagnoses for this? What really causes this?

We just went through this with my LO!! 
At every pediatrician appt. we were told it’s a bit of colic as well as a possible dairy allergy (I am EBF- so I cut out all dairy & kept a food diary). Mom instincts told me neither of these were it, and we went back to the ped where she was FINALLY diagnosed with reflux.
She’s on Zantac twice a day now and let me tell me she’s a different baby. It is absolutely amazing!! It hasn’t even been a full week yet. 
Keep advocating for your LO because you are her biggest advocate! If you aren’t getting the answers you need, definitely get a new pediatrician!

I would say at this point it’s not colic, and if your doctor hasn’t given a diagnosis, I would seek another doctor.

My son's reflux was diagnosed at 5 weeks- arching back, crying at the breast, smacking his face off my breasts, just obvious and terrible as far as reflux in babies goes. He's on Zantac 3x a day and so much better! My son was also diagnosed with colic but I just KNEW it didn't fit the bill... so I looked everywhere and found that his symptoms were almost dead on for a milk protein allergy. I was right- I cut out all dairy and he was better in one week, a totally different baby in one month.

Our baby clinic at my doctor's office refers to it as purple crying. The nurse said that calling it colic makes it sound like there is something wrong with your baby that needs to be treated but it's just a normal (frustrating!) developmental phase. Interestingly, it is observed not just in humans but all breastfed animals as well

Try another doctor. Ask for Zantac.  Also try keeping baby in dark quiet room for the day with little stimulation. Maybe baby is overwhelmed.

Idk what your child’s symptoms are but my first had colic for eight months- just plain colic- then it went away. So if there aren’t any other things you can pinpoint it could be just that. It’s a rough road for sure and I still don’t know how I got through those hours of crying either.
