First time sleeping with someone

It is my first time having sex with someone who isn’t my ex. I have been going through a very difficult breakup for over a year. I stopped seeing my ex and I slept with someone else for the first time. We were dancing at a club and He started to kiss me. I asked him if he wanted to leave. One the way home he grabbed the back of my neck a lot and it hurt. I told him about but he kept doing it. By the next morning I had massive scratch marks on the back of my neck. Is this normal? He said he is like this with other girls but I doubt it.
