How often did you visit your baby in the NICU?

This will be my 3rd baby. My other 2 were normal, term babies. This baby has a heart defect and will spend at least a month in the NICU. I am delivering c section and the fact that i have 2 other kids that need me too,im worried i wont be able to go everyday and will feel guilty and look like a bad mom. Ugh

I struggled with my daughter being in  NICU. I went and saw her every day and took in my daily supply of breastmilk but it was hard for me to stay longer than 30 min to an hour. I felt like a terrible mom cause there were other parents that spent all day, every day with there NICU baby. I just could stand seeing her hooked up to all those wires and being in the isolette. Luckily, she was only there for 26 days.

I don’t have experience personally but my SIL had my nephew at 22 weeks. So he was in the nicu for 4 months. She went everyday to the hospital. And spent the afternoons (like 4pm and after) with her other 2 sons. (Not my brothers kids) but they are older so they definitely understood why she was away all day. (One was 15 and the other 6)

Some nicu’s have cameras that you can check babe on an app— maybe see if yours does? 
Also I wouldn’t beat yourself up too much if the other kiddos are small/with you all day. I am sure the nurses and staff would much rather you visit when you can give baby all the attention and not have to worry about the others running around

I roomed in (6 weeks) but he was my first. I think as long as you make it there twice a week and call to check in every day then it’s totally understandable. If you didn’t have other kids I’d say daily but that’s got to be difficult to juggle.
