Is it ok for a me, a 16 year old to date a 19 year old?

Question

For more background, I met him at work, no he doesn’t work with me anymore, yes my parents know, but don’t approve, because they don’t know his intentions, also they won’t let me go out on dates with him, and give him the chance to prove that his intentions are good, They don’t even want to meet him, and I don’t want to talk to my parents about it, because they always shut me down, is that wrong of my parents to do? Or is it wrong of me to even think about dating a 19 year old? Idek anymore, looking for a second opinion, please be honest.

And for some that are saying I should look for someone in high school? I can’t, I don’t want anything to do with the people at my school, let alone other schools.

I think he’s shady if he’s grown, out of high school, and going after someone in high school. I wouldn’t want to meet him either, BUT I know that teens will find a way to sneak behind their parents back so id consider giving him a chance and meeting him.

Honestly, a 19 year old looking to date a 16 year old is probably not “the one.” Sorry to say, he probably isn’t trying to spend forever with you. Also, depending on where you live, it’s probably illegal for you guys to have sex, so there’s that. Your parents are trying to protect you, that’s all. I dated older guys in my teens too, and when people said it wouldn’t last and that they probably didn’t have good intentions, I brushed it off because I was “in love.” Turns out everyone was right and I felt so so dumb for putting myself through heartbreak. My advice, as long as you’re in high school, don’t date someone who’s not in high school

Your parents are only looking out for you. The fact that he’s 19 would raise a red flag to most people and they just don’t want you to be taken advantage of. Especially since statutory rape is a thing.

I can speak from experience, so I hope this will help (my fiancée and I have almost a 9 year age gap and met when I was fifteen). The absolute most effective way to find out if he is worth your time is to see if he will wait for you. Your parents aren’t okay with it, and they have a valid reason not to be with all the stupid crap that happens today. Also, if you care about him, you’re not going to put him at risk of arrest depending on your state’s age of consent laws. So you ask him if he’s willing to wait until you’re at the age of consent, or at least until your parents feel like it’s okay, and if you could be just friends until then. If he’s worth your time like my fiancée was, then he will agree to wait until then. If not, might hurt but at least problem solved. ABSOLUTE MUST: communicate with your parents. If he is willing to wait, they can keep an eye and will be more open to the idea in the future. If he’s not, you tell them what you said and that it’s over and they’ll see it as a mature way to handle the situation and will have more respect/ trust for you. It might be a scary thing to ask, but trust me, it’s worth it. Best of luck ❤️❤️❤️

I’m currently 16 dating an 18 turning 19 year old who is going to enlist in the Marines in July... he’s going to be gone for 3 months for basic training and then 4 years after that to get his MOS. And yea it is m hard because they are older but if you really like him and he is a good guy and trustworthy I can’t see what is wrong with it, maybe try and see if he’d like to help you convince your parents because that is what my boyfriend did— he would try and be the best he could towards them and he ended up growing on them and now my parents love him. I thought it would be difficult when my boyfriend leaves for boot camp when we first started dating but now that my whole family is on the same page with it we are all cool— and he didn’t go to the same school as me either we met at 4H. :)
