Vaginal contraceptive gel

Hello ladies

Need some advice and anyone's own experience with this method of contraception. I'm advised by my obgyn to not take birth control due to health complications I had in the past so that is no longer an option. We have used condoms but quite honestly they are not my go-to choice with my partner and I. I have used contraceptive gel with the applicator (similar insertion as a tampon) in the past a few times but I will be away for 2 weeks with him and I will be using them often. Anyone experience weird side effects from frequent use? Any other options?
