Going back to work after pregnancy?

I've been flirting with the idea of being a stay at home mom, what have your experiences been?

SAHM for the past 13 yrs! Love it! I am currently working from home but only because I found a great part time job I couldn’t pass up! I don’t judge what other moms do for their family but I knew I didn’t want to have kids and never be around them/raise them! I have friends that see their kids awake for a few hours each week! I wanted to be there 24/7! Initially hadn’t planned on homeschooling as well, but due to life I ended up doing so, so I literally am with my babies 24/7 and I love it! Time flies, they will be out of the house with their own families in no time, and I will be free to do my own thing, so for now I am enjoying every minute of this stage with no regrets!!

I worked as a nanny for a few months after my baby was born but now we are expecting again and I have been a SAHM since July. I love it! It can be pretty lonely so you NEED mom friends nearby!

I wish we could handle that financially so desperately. I’m pregnant with #2 and have such an envy for mamas I know that get to raise their babies the way we were meant to. I wish I could at least work part time or knew how to get a home business going.

I love staying home. I never miss any of the important moments or milestones. I never have to worry about taking a day off if the kid is sick. I get to be at all of his school parties and events  and take him on camping trips in the summer. I’m always there when he needs me and I will be with number two when s/he comes in June. A lot of people struggle with staying home because of isolation but there are plenty of ways to get adult interaction. The other issue I’ve heard a lot is “being too dependent on your husband” or “not having their own money”. That’s something that you and your husband need to be on the same page about. My husband makes the money but as soon as it hits our bank account it is our money. I don’t have to ask permission to spend it or feel guilty about it. I keep up the house and care for the kids while he works. When we are done having kids and they are all in school I will go back to work but I’m a therapist so my schedule will still be flexible enough for me to be there when my kids need me.

I stopped working when my son was born and it's the best decision I could have made for him, myself, and our family. It was a hard transition, but in the end, so awesome. I've had older moms (who are now grandma's!) tell me they wish they had stayed home with their kids - you don't get this time back, etc. I also sub for a local school district occasionally, so that's a nice outlet. I don't have to take a job unless it works for my husband and me so there's no pressure with "my work schedule." If you can stay home, I would at least try it for the first year. Give yourself time to recover from childbirth and just enjoy your little bundle! ❤️

I'm the breadwinner in our family, so there never was a choice for me (we did discuss if my husband could stay home).  I have no regrets about returning to work. Yes, I miss my daughter during the day, but I am also providing her a life that I couldn't otherwise.  We even decided that my husband should stay working when number 2 arrived because we love our daycare and our first learns sooo much there, both socially and educationally.  My husband is a teacher and even he says that he couldn't teach her all that they do!  It's all a matter of what works for your family. This is what works for us, but something else may work for yours.
