Would you take an induction at 39 weeks based on a size estimate?

My first son was 8 lbs 9 oz. This little boy has been measuring in the 90th percentile, and my OB wants to do an induction at 39 weeks and has been discussing a possible c-section. I’m thinking about taking the induction at 39 weeks to avoid a c-section, but I realize it’s impossible to know his size for sure. Would you take the induction in an attempt to have a vaginal birth? 39 weeks is pretty far along so I’m less concerned about development.

Weight can be off by at least 2lbs either way. If you birthed a bigger baby the first time your hips can obviously open to accommodate. Unless there’s a medical reason like GD then no I wouldn’t. I’m a believer your body will produce a baby it can handle. You could try a membrane sweep as a “natural” way to induce and see if that works. But I definitely wouldn’t do a section off the guess of a bigger baby

It’s very rare to make a baby too big for your body. There would be no reason to discuss a c section if you and baby are both healthy based off of a weight estimate that may or may not be accurate.

Im in a similar boat...baby girl is over 8lbs and my midwife said they wil do an ultrasound at 39 weeks (less than 2 weeks from now) and we can induce then...i dont wanna be induced but id rather be induced than have a c section

I was induced both times at 39 weeks because of GD. My first born was 8.1oz and guesstimate was 10lbs. My most recent was 7.1oz and a guesstimate of around 9lbs so they were totally off.

I just had my baby yesterday at 38 weeks, he was measuring 9lbs already and he came out 7lbs 15ozs so sonos can definitely and usually are off by a bit. So based just on size I wouldn’t unless you also have GD as well. Good luck either way!💙💕 Only you can choose which is better for you! 😍

I’m being induced at 39 weeks exactly since my first was 8lb 12oz and in measuring larger with my fundal measurements. I’m hoping he will come sooner but I don’t see it happened. Induction date set for Jan 10th!

A midwife at my hospital said that it’s not normal procedure to do weight estimates in healthy pregnancies as they can be so inaccurate, so if your gut is telling you to leave it then go with it!

I would say no to an induction AND to a c section 🤷🏼‍♀️ my son was 8.6 pounds born at 36 weeks. I’m now 39+3, measuring 3 weeks ahead, and we’re not inducing this time either. However - I’m a really big believer in letting our bodies do what they need to do, and letting our babies come when they’re ready. I don’t think that my body is going to grow a baby that it doesn’t know how to birth ♥️
