In laws always right?!

Around Christmas my hubby and I planned to go to his brothers. So my bro n law always tells his wife and I to plan everything. So here we were planning everything for Christmas eve. Than another family member in my hubby’s side calls they want to invite us that same day in the daytime. So I don’t see a problem going to both. Well my hubby’s brothers wife calls next day (before Christmas eve)to cancel. Saying they had a previous engagement and cancelled because of us,but since we got called by the cousins to just go ahead to the cousins house. She said it’s perfect! We go to our friends as planned before you guys and you guys go to the cousins everything is settled. So here I am very confused and upset because I don’t understand what’s going on. I’m like ok? Well thank you I guess. Next day comes we go over to exchange our presents and well they didn’t have a previous engagement they lied. Why,idk...

The in law does not speak to me as usual and is very awkward. Should I be the one to break the ice and act like nothing???
