Am I awful for not donating?

Question

I didn’t donate to any cause in 2018. I just don’t like to give my money away though I make plenty. Am I awful? Should I feel guilty?

I mean if you’re able to live comfortably and have atleast a small cushion, I think you should give to a cause. Why not help others if you can? We live paycheck to paycheck but still donate to the food shelf and give $10 here and there to others in need. I’ve needed help before so I know how much it means when others make the sacrifice.

I believe that we all have a responsibility to donate back and leave this world a little better than when we entered it.  For me, I used to donate 10% of my annual income to causes that I felt a connection with.  A few years ago when my income changed and so did my expenses, I couldn’t keep doing that, so I moved into donating my time instead (not much- 3 hours a week).  Helping feels awesome to me, so there is a slight selfish aspect of it I’ll admit.  But all in all the bottom line is that you never know where life will take you and might be on the other side where you need to receive the results from others donations

No you shouldn’t feel bad. It’s your money and you should spend/save it how you want. It’s nice to give back to the community, but I prefer to give back by spending my time volunteering, not donating to a charity I will never really know where my money is going.

I dont like to donate for a lot of causes either. I flat out say no when asked at the store etc. Bc I'd rather donate within my community or social group. If someone needs something and it's a trade me or my man know, we do it. I give my baby things to other moms who can use it. When my kid is in school we will purchase extra lunches for others who need. I like this bc I know for sure who I'm helping and how. Other things you dont know exactly how your mo dy is diluted.

We donate to lots of things, I volunteer my time. I am a home room mom & like to help in the community. My husbands job is basically community service all the time and he always is “voluntold” about events. We usually donate or give away clothing, shoes, houseware, and etc. it just feels good to help out where you can. While we have donated some cash, we generally just try to get out and make positive differences.
