Mixing foundations

Question

So I bought the nyx total control drop foundation in shade deep rich and it was a little too dark for me so instead of buying a new one I decide to mix it with this lighter cover girl foundation I have (it’s a little lighter than my shade) whenever I apply it . Does anyone try doing this too? Like when I mix it it’s hard to get the right color, like it’ll look right at first but then when I cover my whole face I notice that it’s wrong. There is no real advice anyone can give me but who has experience with this? And any tips on matching foundation, application, etc in general.

Depending on where you go to get ya foundation can always have someone color match you since lighting is different in the store and they’ll show you what it looks like before you leave the store. Also there this product from nyx it’s called the pro foundation mixer. Has many different colors so there’s a white one to lighten dark foundations and there’s colors to add your undertone. Most people when shopping for foundation only focus on just matching the foundation to their skin color forgetting your undertone plays a major part. Here’s a pic of the product

i usually will take the foundation i currently have that is the correct color, and take it to the store with me to make sure they match in shade and consistency. as for anything else, other than returning the actual foundation and getting a closer color- i don’t really have any advice as that’s just what i do whennits not the right color- return it
