Starting water and juice?

Went to the pediatrician yesterday for my baby's four month appointment and after the appointment they give you a packet of the upcoming development/milestones. In the packet it said to start giving my baby  juice and water this month and I thought it was strange. Isn't four months way too young for juice?

That's weird. My understanding is that babies do not need any water or juice (empty calories and sugar!) until a year old. Particularly with young babies (under 6 months) too much water can cause liver problems.

Way too early in my opinion. All they need until a year is breastmilk or formula, sometime after 6 months you can start solids, but the formula or breastmilk has the water they need and juice has absolutely no nutritional value. Look up why you shouldn't give your baby juice.

We give our 1 month old extra water as it's been really warm here and he's formula fed. But he dies t have a lot and it's mostly to help stop him getting constipated. Surely juice will be too sweet/sugary for them.

No not really especially when sometime babies at 4 months will start eating baby cereal and stuff like that. But if your uncomfortable starting you could always wait till the 6 month mark which usually when they do start recommending you start baby food.
