Relationship Goals?

My boyfriend and I have been dating for only about 6 months. We have only just started saying "I love you" and thinking about the coming months together. We're teenagers (17), and he's told me that his goal for this relationship is 4 or 5 years together. He would like to try to get to this amount of time before considering anything further. Is this normal? Has anyone else had an experience like this?

I'm taking it as He wants to take things slow and he sees you two together on 5 years. It's not gonna be some relationship that doesn't last HE sees you two TOGETHER STILL in 5 years. You two could get engaged before then but I think he was thinking maybe get married or engaged in 4 or 5 years that way you two can finish high school and possible university then plan in children or whatever you two want

I think this is a good way of interpreting it :)

It's quite strange ? why and how can you decide "ok we're going to stay together for X years"? What if you break up? What if you are so in love that you end up getting married? Love is not something that can be planned, you just go with the flow ?

I feel like they are setting a goal in hope of reaching it, it's not always. "Yes we will" it's more "we can get there"
