When should I start testing for ovulation

I’m on cycle day 4 right now and my period should be ending tomorrow. when should I start testing for ovulation and what time of the day is the best time to test at? Also how does temping work? Thanks!

Instarted at CD 9.. don't know why that day in particular but my peak was on CD 16 and im normally a 30 day cycle

Take the length of your cycle and subtract 17 days. That will give you the day you should start testing. 
And when it comes to ovulation tests, the test line has to be as dark as, or darker than, the control line. And best to test once at 10 AM, and another at 8 PM each day; with at least a 4 hour pee hold for each - unless the instructions tell you otherwise.
