POTS is autoimmune?

Has anyone ever heard that POTS is an autoimmune disease? I’ve had it for 10 years now but someone recently told me it was actually recently classified as an autoimmune disease. Does anyone know if this is true? I can’t seem to find a straight answer.

I was diagnosed with celiac disease and crohns, neither were inherited on either side of my family. If POTS is an autoimmune, it makes some sense that I could develop two more.

This is actually a complicated subject! The science right now strongly suggests that POTS is autoimmune but it’s not confirmed yet. I personally bet that it is— it is mostly found in women (like autoimmune) & many people with POTS have other autoimmune diseases. I too have celiac and POTS myself & celiac seemed to trigger my POTS actually. Here’s an article that explains more of the science of it: https://www.dysautonomiainternational.org/blog/wordpress/new-evidence-of-autoimmunity-in-pots/

I have POTS also and have heard the same but so far it’s said not to be an autoimmune but that POTS can be CAUSED by an autoimmune disease.

Also it’s very likely that someone else in your family has/had celiac and just went undiagnosed. It’s much more likely that you inherited celiac and that celiac triggered your POTS than that POTS caused celiac. Celiac is highly genetic and POTS is more complicated genetically
