When did you introduce foods?? Baby led weaning maybe??

My son is almost 4 months old and was wondering if it was okay it start giving him some actual food? What did you guys do? Also was interested in baby led weaning who has done that? When did you guys start anything of the two?

Baby led weaning shouldn’t be done before 6 months. If you’re going to start before 6 months, you would need to do purées and traditional weaning. However most major health organizations currently recommend waiting until 6 months to introduce anything other than breastmilk or formula anyways. There are no benefits to starting before 6 months, only risks that may not be known until later in life.

My second let us know she wanted what her sister was having somewhere between 6 and 9 months. She started refusing purées. She also had a couple of teeth that made us more willing to try out certain solids sooner. Her big sis was on purée till she was 1, but she also didn't have any teeth till then...I think it is important to listen to your baby.  If they seem to show a real interest in what you are eating, they may be ready, but be careful depending on where they are at with teeth and chewing development.

We started homemade purees (so they’re not super smooth) a few weeks ago at six months. You want to wait until baby can sit up. Will try blw later maybe.

We started with purées at 5 months, and baby porridge. He’s 6.5 months now and we are still on purées but adding things like rice snacks, carrot puff things. The puréed bits now are more adventurous, not just carrot.
