Big baby! What now?

Question

Hey! I just had my doctors appointment, I am 34 weeks 4 days. My baby is weighing in at 7 pounds 15 ounces. In 2 weeks I go to the children's hospital to have a special ultrasound done & then my doctor will decide on delivery options. He said I have a 10% chance of a vaginally delivery. Any mom's have been through this? And what was the outcome?

Ultrasounds are very inaccurate at determining weight! I'd ask that dr how he came up with that 10% figure because there's no way of him knowing that honestly. Even if your baby is big, women birth big babies all the time. I had a friend who was coerced into a c-section because of a "big baby" that she apparently couldn't birth- and baby came out at like 7.5 lbs. Then there's my aunt who's had 6 kids, ranging from 5 lbs to 9 lbs. She swears there wasn't much difference between her smallest & biggest, & had no problems birthing her 9lber. Trust your body!! Go get Ina May Gaskin's book A Guide to Childbirth- it'll give you so much confidence in your body's abilities!

Don't let them tell you that you need to have a c section because your baby will be big! People do it all the time and even outside of hospitals with midwives! There is no risk but a tear..but even at 7 pounds you may tear. Do what you feel comfortable with, but unless you or your baby is having issues a c section isn't needed for a big baby :)

With my son, they really pushed me and wanted me to have a csection since he was big. Many sonos are wrong. I will say my sonos were accurate as far as weight though. I just kept insisting that I can do it. Big babies run in my family. I was 9 lbs 11 oz and my mom had a nucb with me. I was so determined. My husband also encouraged it. We both of course weren't against csection if it was medically necessary. So anyway, all went well. I had a vaginal birth with both kids - 8 lbs 14 oz and 8 lbs 15 oz.

I had relatively large children for my size. My oldest was 7'12 and my second was 8'2. I had them both vaginally just fine. I have had friends deliver 10 pound babies naturally. Hang in there. Not all is lost.

My son was 7.8 I'm pregnant with baby number 2 now. My son a different father sense he was from a previous relationship. My now fiancé was 13 pounds he should of been a c section but was born vaginaly they had to brake his coler bone to get him out sense he got stuck. I wad a twin so I was 5.6 when burn and my sister was 5.2. I'm hoping this baby isn't very big when it's time to deliver in March.

Sonos aren't always right. They told me that I would have a average size baby 6 or 7 lbs. and she was almost 9. I'm a small person 100 lbs 5'3" and I had no problems delivering her.

My doctor has said a big baby isn't indication to induce, and hasn't mentioned anything about c. section to me. My baby measured at 8 lbs on my scan at 36 weeks...my due date is on Sunday. I'm thinking he will be a big baby, but my doc doesn't think I'll have any problems

My son was huge he has measuring 8lb at 36 weeks he was 9lb 5oz when he was born his head was to big to fit threw the birth canal I had to have a c section after three days labor and no progress
