Help me out

So my significant other and I have been together for 8 months and when we first met he said he liked that I was natural and loved everything about me. And now that he lives further away when he calls me or FaceTime me it’s like he doesn’t care and the other day he says to me that I’m very “plain” because I don’t keep my hair and nails done. We haven’t talked since then and when I tried to talk to him he’s being very short with me. I don’t know what to do or think
