Missed pill. Spotting day of period

im supposed to get my period today however i have only had dark brown spotting and its only a little bit. i missed a pill within the last week and took it the next day and i have had sex around that time. i cant recall if i missed the pill before or after i had sex. but i used a condom as well as him pulling out and we checked the condom. I am taking a test today to be sure, but is the spotting normal with a missed pill?
