Using two kinds of birth control

So I got the implant, it will be a year in March since. Like 5-6 months in I got worried because I had my period non stop like it actually happened for 5 months straight with like maybe 1-2 days with no bleeding. I went to planned parent hood to see what was up. They told me that this is normal and that it sometimes happens for a year straight. They gave me the option to get on the pill too to regulate my period. I did. I’ve been on it for awhile and I just don’t really want to take two kinds of birth control. I have to take them for a year but I don’t know what they do after. Any ideas? Or has anyone ever been through the same thing so I’m not the only one?
