Does getting an IUD hurt?

I want to get on birth control and I made the mistake of watching footage of an IUD being inserted. Does it hurt? Is there blood? Does anyone recommend any other type of birth control that isn’t the pill or an IUD?

I love my IUD. I'm on month 7 of mirena. No periods after month 4. Insertion was intense cramps. It's worth it. No bleeding after insertion.

I got my IUD to me it hurt but it was so quick less than five minutes. I had some spotting which is normal and cramping the first day but it went Away.  I have kyleena because it is the smallest IUD. It has helped a lot, i still have a little spotting here and there but that's normal for the first 3-6 months.  You can have spotting with any birth control.  It is good for 5 years.  I had the depo shot but had a bad reaction to it. It doesn't mean you will have one.  Best to talk to your doctor and go over what would be best for you and try it out.  The IUD can always be removed by your doctor.
