What was your experience like if cytotec was used to induce your labor?

First, I want to apologize if this isn't exactly the kind of response you wanted. I debated about posting because you asked for experiences but decided to because I truly care about moms and babies. I have not nor would I ever use Cytotec. I'm guessing you have maybe researched it a bit and that's why you are asking. So if you aren't interested in my warning, please don't read. I dont want to scare you but just inform if you are interested. Though I cautioned my friend about its dangers, she did use it based on her doctor's recommendation as many do so I can share her experience. She said sporadic but painful cramp like contractions began almost immediately. The result was a couple of centimeters of dilation over about 10 hours before they switched to pitocin. Thankfully she and her baby are ok with minor complications during delivery from unknown cause.  The label on Cytotec  says it should not be used to induce labor as it can result in death to mom and/or baby. Also it says the long term effects on a baby aren't known either such as learning disabilities etc. Since induction with Cytotec is an off label use, statistics on negative effects are not collected meaning no one really tracks the negative outcomes. Also from my understanding, it is dangerous because unlike other induction methods, once the pill is taken or inserted it is in the body. So if a baby responded poorly to it, it cannot be stopped sometimes resulting in emergency csection to save mom and or baby hopefully. Many choose to take it because or pressure from their doctor. They wouldn't use it if it wasn't safe right? Unfortunately and for some reason they do especially in the US. It appears to be illegal to use for induction in 11 other countries. I am not saying bad things happen to everyone who uses this method. I'm also not a doctor but have just done research at the advice of my doula. Again thankfully my friend and her baby seem to be ok. However I can't imagine taking that risk and think others should be fully informed before making that decision. Best of luck for a healthy, safe delivery for you and baby whatever you decide. Listening to your mom instinct is so important in my opinion.

I came into the hospital due to contractions already being 3-4 minutes apart and quite painful for several hours.  since I was still 0% dialated they would have sent me home to Labor some more on my own—- but I had to be admitted to to gestational hypertension so they decided to progress my labor with the Cytotec.  It worked! I dialated to 10 in 4 hours. It amped up the contractions to pain level 10-10 but the epidural worked and it was fine after that! Both Mom and Baby are healthy and baby was born Wednesday evening.

It was used during my induction. I was very nervous to take it as I did so much research on it but felt pressured by my dr and the nurses to take it because according to them, it’s what they use all the time. My son and I are both okay thankfully but I did not want to use it at all. This was my first birthing experience and had to be induced due to high blood pressure.

I’ve used it with both my girls. With my first I used 2 and then with my second I used 3. My first I was on pitocin for around 11 hours and my second I was on pitocin for about 6. I believe that it helped my labor progress better than just being on pitocin alone.
