Is college the same as high school?

Question

What I mean by “same” is that when you go to class they teach you new things & you learn just like you would in HS. Is college hard? Do you like it? Would you consider yourself to be smart? How many years have you been going for/did you go for? What did you go to college for?

I felt it was easier than high school but only if you have self discipline.  You aren’t going to get reminders and support from college professors.

I wouldn't say it's the same.. more is expected of you without your hand being held, so teachers aren't spoon feeding you the way they may have in high school. You definitely have to learn how to manage your time, because you will spend hours per week, per class, doing homework. I went to college for 10 years (I know, I'm crazy lol). I have a PhD now and I'm a psychologist.

College is as much as learning to stand on your own 2 feet and getting ready for adulthood as it is about the education.  Meaning that, assuming you leave your parents house for school like I did, you are responsible for getting yourself up every morning and getting to class....no mom and dad making sure you didn’t oversleep and miss your bus. There’s no bell like in high school telling you when you need to be at your next class. Time management is very important when it comes down to how you break out the work and studying you need to do. Classes don’t always meet every day...sometimes they are 3 times a week for an hour. Sometimes they are twice a week for 90 minutes. Sometimes they are once a week for 3 hours. Mom and dad aren’t there to make sure you are eating 3 meals a day so you have to get yourself to dining halls or figure out what Limited amounts of food you can make in your room (if you’re in a dorm).  No progress reports are sent home if you’re doing poorly in a class...it’s up to you to speak with your professors and teaching assistants.  
All that being said yes the coursework is different. It’s more advanced as you’ve already passed high school levels. You’ll have an opportunity to take more classes then what’s offered in a high school.  
It took me 4 years to finish college and a year and a half to finish my graduate degree.

It’s definitely not the same. 
The high school I went to, the teachers really baby their students and remind them when things are due, etc. I haven’t gotten that from any of my professors. 
Some classes you are expected to teach yourself and come into class and discuss what you learned/read from the book. Some classes will require loads of studying for this reason. Not all classes are like this, but I definitely have run into a few. 
If you are at a bigger university/college, you will probably not have a relationship with your teacher unless you go to their office hours. Some of the classes that everyone had to take regardless of their major had 300 students in them where I’m at. 
I have been in college classes/university for three years now. In high school, I took all of my senior year classes at our local community college for free to get a head start as I will be going off to Vet school for another 4 years after I get my bachelors. 
I’ve found that my friends who wouldn’t consider themselves as “smart” have struggled a bit, but if they really wanted to do well in a class and put in the time and used all their resources, they were able to get B’s and C’s. 
Everyone’s college experience is different though. For me so far, college has been a cake walk and I have gotten all A grades. I know some of the students in my class have failed classes I thought were super easy, and I’ve had friends who have failed quite a few classes. 
It just depends on your work ethic, not your smarts

I went to a top 50 university, and it was easier than my extremely intense public high school. The biggest difference is that no one is going to hold your hand and make you go to class in college. It’s about about self discipline.

It's not the same. It depends on how you learn. I'm seeing a lot of comments here saying it's easy but I struggle. I learn best hands on and with the information in context. I don't learn well being handed (read:having to pay through the nose for) a textbook and being told "good luck." Too many professors had the attitude "it's not my job to teach you, it's your job to learn." Bitch!, I paid to sit in this classroom specifically so you would teach me what I don't know!  I took a break and now it's easier for me to manage my time and get it done but it's not easy. A big part of it is figuring out what each professor wants from you.

They are most definitely not the same. High school was a breeze for me because I had structure. College is more flexible and I had a hard time adjusting to that, so that made it more difficult at first and can still make it difficult. General Ed stuff was easy for the most part. I took some intense classes like microbio, chem and accounting and hated my life during those semesters and have failed classes and had to retake them, but that’s college. You learn your learning style and studying style. Wish I’d practiced that while I was high school though. I took AP and honors in high school, but they are totally not the same as college classes and like I had a set group of friends in high school, so I always had people to study with. In college, you have to make study groups with people you don’t really know, so it can be strange or at least it can be for me because I have social anxiety. College also teaches way more than high school. High school is like minimum and I honestly just studied to get A’s and then would forget and would t retain anything because we were taught to memorize everything. You can’t do that in college or you’ll never pass and that’s why it’s harder.
