What Am I Looking For?

So I recently got the mirena IUD, about 15 days ago and I was told to check my strings and I attempted the other night but its difficult because 1. I have acrylic nails, and 2. I have no idea what I'm looking for and I'm nervous it fell out. Any helpful hints? Or tricks? Anything? Lol

I know it might sound weird, but if you have a significant other and are sexually active/trust them, you could ask them to feel the strings for you; just a suggestion, it avoids your nails altogether. As far as what the strings feel like, a thin plastic string, I find it similar to fishing line.

Everyone’s body is different. I couldn’t find mine for a while — turns out I was just poking in the wrong direction and my fingers are too damn short. I ended up having to stick my middle finger up there and feel much further BACK than expected, while using my other hand to make sure I was feeling as deep as possible. Worse case, call the Dr and get an ultrasound.

You might not be able to with nails. Be careful you don't pull on it with them

Trust me you'd know if it fell out. I've had my Paraguard IUD for 2 in a half years. Any sudden changes to your cervix with that IUD. I've had friends who expelled their IUD and it HURTS according to them. Sooooooo yeah. It feels like a fishing line. It will should be about the full length of your index find (without the length of the nails obviously)

sounds gross.. but squat down in the shower and then feel up there. allows for your body to open up more, and you can reach higher. the strings feel slightly pokey, like super thin wires. I don’t have long nails, so not sure about that. Good luck!
