Can being sick affect your period?

I fell victim to Delhi Belly while travelling last week and vomitted up anything I ate/drank for 3 days followed by diarrhoea for a further 3 days. This week I've come on and my period is much lighter than normal. I had something similar four months ago when I caught a stomach bug and my period was so light afterwards that I thought it may have been an implantation bleed.

I know being ill can have an effect but my period is practically non existent.
