Would you let your dad in the room?

Anon

My little cousin (about 16) went to go to the GYN recently.

I guess her dad insisted that he take her, and then INSISTED he be in the room with her while she had her exam.

And I guess she texted her grandmother to tell him he can’t go into the room with her, and he threw a fit.

My family talks about this incident, as if he is just controlling.

Like for some reason he wants to know whether or not she’s a virgin/stuff like that.

But I have a really icky feeling that there’s more to the reason why he’d want to be in that room.

Especially because whenever I go, I always get asked whether or not I’m currently/have ever been sexually assaulted.

Which I have, and I think that may be part of why I am feeling so strong about this. Like maybe I am taking my experience out of her relationship on her dad.

But my own mother would not even go into the room with me during my exam unless I would have asked for her to, so I do not see why her father would feel the need to have to go in.

And my own aunt (different side of the family) even asks if I want her in the room for my GYN appointments (she works with my GYN.).

I did tell my grandmother that I thought he was hurting my cousin sexually, and my grandmother told me that if that were to be true, she would be smart enough to say something.

But I don’t necessarily think that’s true. I didn’t speak up for years.

I almost want to ask her/talk to her about it. But I’m afraid if I start questioning or saying something, that he dad will keep her away from the entire family
