I read you saying she says a handful of words. That’s totally normal! I was worried about my son not speaking enough once he hit two, but his pediatrician calmed me down and told me that he is probably on the verge of “exploding” into a bigger vocabulary and sometimes their brains have to catch up to everything they’ve learned and now know. Also if you’re really worried and want to do something about it to make sure, speech therapy is always a good option. My pediatrician said he had to put his son in speech therapy at around that age because he was behind and it worked wonders, but that he would have eventually caught up on his own at his own pace 😊 hope that helped!

If it’s no words at all, you need to talk to her pediatrician. If it’s not full sentences, you’re ok. 2.5-3 is when they will pick up full sentences. Does your child understand what you’re saying most of the time? That’s also another indicator.

My son has apraxia. Didn’t even know what that was until found out he had it. 
Didn’t babble during the stage they normally start (11-13 months).
No words by 18 months and very congested and limited 1 word phrases by 2. 
Speak with the pediatrician to get started with Evals for speech therapy and maybe ot.

Mine is 2 + a few months. No words. At all. Not even babbles. We get laughs, cries, grunts. 
We are being evaluated and getting started in speech & OT. We had CDSA out to do initial evaluation. But they are to backed up so we are having to switch to a private practice.

Do you baby talk to her? Explain things as you go about your day? 
I talked to my boys CONSTANTLY. Telling them what we were doing, pointing out things, and etc. so much! 
They both talked very early, many words by one, and full sentences by two. 
If you are concerned I would speak to your pediatrician.

My sister had problems with this with her son. Turned out, he had some issues with his ears and every sound he heard was like muddled underwater, he had a surgery that corrected a lot of the problem. It also helped to regulate his sleep patterns and even out his temperament, I guess there was some pain associated with it that required a formal diagnosis to really find.

My son is 2.5 and still doesn’t fully say words, he understands everything we tell him and will do what we tell him, sometimes he will copy what you say but most of the time he doesn’t even want to repeat at all, we do speak 3 languages at home, his pediatrician says that, in our case that’s why he might not be talking bcuz of multiple language speaking at home, but we will wait till he’s 3 the doctor said

I’d talk to someone. My son was saying small things “mama, dada” before one but he is 17 months now and has a very large vocabulary in both verbal and sign language. He can say “mom, dad, bottle, milk, juice, blankey, dog, cat, car, more, all done, night night, bye bye, I love you, trash can, gigi, pop, Mimi, missy and nala(dogs name), poopoo, no, mine, cheese, light, and a lot of other words I’m not thinking of at the moment lol. He’s been saying most of those for at least a month or two. 
Some babies are just delayed talkers but after they turn 2 is when it becomes a concern.
