Does it bother you when...?

Question

You post something about your life (a scenario, hardship, etc) that you are experiencing and ask for advice from fellow glow members and instead of getting advice you get a story from them about a hardship their going through or something similar? I mean I realize different situations can shed different lights on things, but the whole point is to get advice, not to hear everyone else's problems too. What are your thoughts on this?

Haha this is harsh. I mean, I get what you're saying. But at the end of the day, they're trying to help. If you read their scenario and how they dealt with it, it might give you an idea of how to handle yours, maybe?

Without their personal experience they are not equipped to offer advice!

If you're asking from advise, would you rather have someone who experienced something similar and can thus can empathize or someone who has no experience in that area but can sympathize?

If you're just looking to share your story, cool, share. But if you want advise it's better coming from someone with a shared experience so you can see how they dealt.

Example:

"Hi y'all, my dog is old and kinda sick, I don't want to put him down but I think that may be the most humane thing I can do, please help me."

Type one: I know how you feel. I just had to put Rufus down a month ago. My heart still breaks and I still cry, but if it is truly what's best, please don't keep him alive and in pain for your sake. I'm here for you!

Type two: I've never had a dog but I think you should put him down lol

OR

Type two: you're disgusting for having a pet in the first place. That itself is animal cruelty. And now you can't afford to treat his illness? People like you make me sick.

This is no exaggeration, is seen various topics that have comments very similar. Hope this helps.

I dont see anything wrong with this. For me personally it really helps. I have found empathy to be a contributing factor for me going through my depression because when i hear stories of people getting better it helps. If people are doing this I believe 100 % of the time it is for good intentions.

Well to be honest, most people can only appropriately explain the advice they are giving you by relating it to their own experiences. Which isn't that what you want. Someone giving you advice who has been in a similar situation? Or do you want someone with no experience in that field just dollig out whatever?

I think we're all thing to confined in one another and by sharing our Story we are relating to you. Letting you know you're not alone. That in itself helps me a lot. Knowing others are dealing with it too even if they don't know why.

Well no one actually knows what your going through but you!!!  So saying they know exactly how you feel is obviously a far stretch from the truth.  The reason they share is because it was a time in their life either they felt like they defeated their problems or maybe from experience a similar problem and they can tell you how to handle your situation.  Don't get it twisted. J/s

No it doesn't. That means they are simply trying to let u know that u aren't alone in ur situation. What bothers me is when some people act like pricks about the whole thing and call u a troll or report u for spam when  ur not.

Good for you that you posted a personal story and no one tore you to shreds! Some people get called awful things and told they are a bad person. Consider it a success that your story aligned with so many other people.
